Sustainability at Culver

Conserve – Reduce – Educate

Get Involved

So you want to do your part to help make Culver more sustainable?  Here are some ways to get involved.

Students

  1. Join Green Life — At the least, get your name on the Green Life email list to stay up to date on a variety of student led green activities.  Green Life meets every other Tuesday in Roberts Auditorium.  Next meeting is September 30 @ 7:50am.
  2. Consider a sustainability-related project for your Senior Service Practicum.  See Mr. Kline or Mr. March for ideas.  Sophomores and Juniors, it’s not too early to start thinking about this!
  3. Model good environmental behavior.  Recycle as a matter of practice.  Turn off the lights when you leave the room, even if only for a few minutes.  Pick up trash outside, even if it’s not yours.
  4. Encourage your unit, dorm or team to take on a sustainability project.  For example, we need a student run system to collect old alkaline batteries and deliver to facilities so they can be properly disposed.
  5. Get outside.  Enjoy a walk by the lake, through the bird sanctuary, or into town.

Faculty and Staff

  1. Did you know that Facilities accepts “household hazardous waste” like car batteries, old paint cans, fluorescent bulbs, old computer monitors and other electronics?  Instead of sending these items to the land fill in your regular trash pickup, drop them off at the Facilities loading dock area.  Contact Debbie Smith in Facilities or Chris Kline if you have questions.
  2. Model good environmental behavior.  Recycle as a matter of practice.  Turn off the lights when you leave the room, even if only for a few minutes.  Pick up trash outside, even if it’s not yours.
  3. Have an idea or would like to see a green initiative at Culver?  Contact Chris Kline and let’s make it happen!

Everyone

  1. Learn about our community, the lake, it’s watershed and the surrounding natural areas.  Information will be posted here, as well as on a Resource Library on One Drive.
  2. Follow this blog and tell your friends to do the same.
